Pad Thai and Riesling

2015 Marionette Riesling and Hungry Panda’s Pad Thai

The next few articles I write on the blog throughout the summer will be all about pairing the Downtown Salmon Arm takeout food options with Marionette wines. Why, you ask? Because we are the only winery that’s actually in town and we want to invite all of you up here to Marionette for a picnic throughout the summer.  Downtown Salmon Arm has some great options for that picnic and we’ve got the wine, the vibe and the view that will make any meal memorable. So, let’s begin.

For my first pairing I chose to go down to the Hungry Panda which is Salmon Arm’s gem of a curbside noodle bar on Hudson Street serving up top notch food in a very “to-go” fashion. The only problem is that once you step out of the Hungry Panda with your warm box of delicious noodles you look around and think “hmmm…where should I eat?”  Marionette is the answer.  A two minute drive will get you to our patio where you will be able to do a tasting of our wines, buy a glass for $6.00 and we’ll even help you pair the wine of ours that goes best with whichever box you’ve come away from Hungry Panda with. Sounds good right?

What did I choose from Hungry Panda? For this first article I went with my personal favourite, their Pad Thai.  I chose chicken as my protein and because of that wedge of lime on top of the box when you open it I went for our 2015 Riesling as the wine to pair with it. The bright edge of the lime-zest citrus notes in our Riesling really cut through the gorgeous tamarind sauce and the crunchy sharpness of the bean sprouts sets off the mineral notes of the Riesling.

The great thing about the pairing of the Riesling with Hungry Panda’s Pad Thai is that every mouthful is a slightly different combination of flavours and the Riesling weaves in and out of those Thai food melodies, harmonising and complementing at every turn. It’s a brilliant combination and it’s right here in town.

Come get it and bring it up to Marionette and enjoy!   We’ll be waiting for you.
